Freelancing and the Future

Last week I took an important first-step in my life. I dusted off that Elance profile of mine and started applying for writing jobs.

That’s right; I realized that a job isn’t just going to fall into my lap. I owed it to myself to give it a try.

I decided to stalk my own future, as if I were an African lion on the prowl.

I was feeling especially inspired that evening, after laying down some plans for a trip to Colombia. I estimated the cost for a month, realized that  I already had saved that amount in the bank, and then joyfully began to find the cheapest most cost effective place to fly out from; Fort Lauderdale, FL.

I was thinking about the best way to finance my travels. If I really worked at it, I could make a decent wage by freelancing. Would people really want to hire me though?

I guess I have to start somewhere!

Four freelance jobs and four satisfied clients later, and I am well on my way to whatever awaits.

I may not know what my final destination will look like, but I definitely know that I can only get there by taking one step at a time.

Time for another…
